Enjoying What You Have
A boat docked in a tiny Mexican village.an American tourist complimented the Mexican fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took him to catch them."Not very long," answered the Mexican.
"But then, why didn't you stay out longer and catch more?" asked the American.The Mexican explained that his small catch was sufficient to meet his needs and those of his family.
The American asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?""I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, and take a siesta with my wife. In the evenings, I go into the village to see my friends, play the guitar, and sing a few songs...I have a full life."
The American interrupted, "I have an MBA from Harvard, and I can help you! You should start by fishing longer every day. You can then sell the extra fish you catch. With the extra revenue, you can buy a bigger boat.""And after that?" asked the Mexican.
"With the extra money the larger boat will bring, you can buy a second one and a third one and so on until you have an entire fleet. Instead of selling your fish to a middle man, you can then negotiate directly with the processing plants and maybe even open your own plant. You can then leave this little village and move to Mexico City , Los Angeles , or even New York City ! From there you can direct your huge new enterprise."
"How long would that take?" asked the Mexican.
"Twenty, perhaps twenty-five years," replied the American."And after that?""Afterwards? Well my Friend, That's when it gets really interesting," answered the American,laughing. "When your business gets really big, you can start selling stocks and make millions!""
Millions? Really? And after that?" said the Mexican."
After that you'll be able to retire, live in a tiny village near the coast? sleep late? play with your children? catch a few fish? take a siesta with your wife and spend your evenings doing what you like and enjoying your friends."
And the moral is:Know where you're going in life...Who knows - You may already be there.

My amiga from Uruguay Gabriela translated my 'singledom' post to put on her blog. If you can read spanish, enjoy. :) It's neat to see how thoughts and ideas translate into another language.

Nunca voy a tener una mejor respuesta para el "¿cómo te va en el amor?" como esta. Así que aquí está.... este es un email que envié hace un año a un amigo íntimo acerca del tema.
Necesito pensar una respuesta buena y simple para la pregunta de este muchacho. Los "casados" de la iglesia probablemente no escuchan lo mismo de las autoridades generales que los "solteros" así que aquí esta la respuesta larga. MUCHAS autoridades generales han estado dándonos consejos muy realistas acerca de las citas y el matrimonio en los últimos años. La parte sobre las citas es la misma que ha sido siempre pero ellos están diciendo ahora a las hermanas que debemos prepararnos para ser solteras el resto de nuestras vidas porque, ahora más que nunca, existen mayores posibilidades de que así suceda.
Las autoridades generales están preocupadas porque los casamientos se están dando a una edad cada vez más y más avanzada, y mi teoría al respecto es que una manera en que Satanás puede atacar a la familia es impidiendo que ella comience en primer lugar. Las autoridades generales también están preocupadas por la tasa de divorcio en la iglesia. (Conozco a TANTA gente de mi edad que está divorciada). Así que ellos nos aconsejan fuertemente que escojamos al esposo correcto según las normas del Señor y no que quedemos atrapadas por las ideas románticas sobre el matrimonio. Eso probablemente no sea nada nuevo, excepto por la parte "hermanas, deben prepararse para la posibilidad de quedar solteras durante mucho tiempo" que, en mi opinión, es nuevo.
Así que luego de haber escrito eso, hace aproximadamente un año, he sido sumamente feliz. Hace un año atrás me miré al espejo y me dije "si me caso cuando tenga 55, entonces miraré 20 años hacia atrás y me arrepentiré de toda la preocupación y bulla que estoy haciendo ahora". Por alguna razón, desde aquel momento, me he sentido más feliz y he disfrutado la vida sirviendo y amando a mis amigos y familia. Claro que, como siempre, he tenido flechazos, pero, como siempre, nada ha pasado.
Sin embargo, al final del día puedo decir que me siento tan feliz con la vida. Mi perspectiva ha cambiado y eso me ha permitido vivir mi vida en forma más completa. La perspectiva que tengo en estos momentos es que deseo casarme con el hombre correcto y tener un gran matrimonio. No es sólo que quiero casarme con cualquier hombre que sea fantástico. En vez de decir "quiero casarme así que tengo que salir y ser sociable y encontrar un hombre", digo "quiero conocer gente sin importar quienes son". Y si sucede que encuentro a una persona que me gusta, ENTONCES pensaré un poco más en el matrimonio, pero sólo con ese chico, no con todos los chicos. Esto te sonará cursi, pero hay tantas chicas solteras que no son felices que continuamente estoy dando este sermón.
